What's missing in Canada?

Immigrants who come to Canada are seeking a better life, a better education, a more relaxed environment...mostly what they can't get back home. What are some of the difficulties you've faced while settling in Canada? We would like to hear from you. What is the best thing that happened to you since you arrived? What is culture shock for you? What is missing in this host country now that you live here?

What's great?
--I love being able to walk on the streets, at least in our Canadian town, without worrying about someone hiding in the shadows. Also love the heated homes, hot water, quiet neighborhoods, outdoor life, and blackberries growing wild!

What's missing?
--Soccer weather; why do we have to play in the snow?! ;)
--Also, patriotism! Canada is a great place. But I've not met a lot of immigrants who claim to be proud to be Canadian. I was not born here, but I show my Canadian passport with pride when I travel overseas.
--And, of course, sun-ripened fruit and veggies. Some of our fruit is great--but I miss sun-ripened oranges, tangerines, pineapple, watermelon.

I guess that's the price to pay: here we feast the eyes, there, the tongue!

Yes, there's that chilly nip in the air that doesn't help soccer...now that Italy has won the FIFA cup, we can all go back to uhm...other sports...like curling.

What is great?

This one is easy. I love Canada because I am Canadian born. But I have lived 40 years abroad and seen poverty. I have also seen fascinating country. Now I enjoy beautiful British Columbia, the open roads through mountainous country, the numerous lakes, the endless variety of flowers. And our very own home near family.

What is missing?

The warmth and open friendliness in foreign cultures.

In your estimation, what's missing in Canada is the warmth and open friendliness from other cultures. Do you think this could be because of the language barrier or perhaps prior bad experiences?
